Google provides several free tools that help website owners understand website performance, user activity, and search visibility. Three important tools are Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and Google Search Console (GSC).
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is Google's analytics product for websites and mobile applications. It helps businesses understand how users interact with their website. GA4 is a user behavior analytics tool that helps businesses make data-driven decisions.
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free Google product that allows users to manage tracking codes without editing website code. GTM helps integrate or modify tracking properties without touching the website code.
Google Search Console is a free Google product that helps monitor website performance in Google Search. It provides information about how users find your website through Google Search.
In GA4, every user action is treated as an event. An event is any activity performed by a visitor on a website or application. Everything that happens on a website or app is recorded as an event.
GA4 contains two types of events. Auto Events are predefined events collected automatically. Manual Events are custom events created based on business requirements.
Some events are more important than others. These important events are called Key Events. Key Events include Lead Generation, Purchase, and Sale. These events help businesses measure important goals.
GA4 provides different reports that help businesses understand website activity. Reports can be Viewed, Shared, and Downloaded. These reports help businesses understand what is happening on their website.
To use GA4, you need a Gmail Account or Google Workspace. GA4 Basic is free with limited access. GA4 360 is a premium version for enterprise needs.
GTM contains three main components. Tag is used for adding integration code. Trigger defines when a tag should fire. Variable captures matching information, dynamic values, and tracking data. Each GTM account contains containers. One container is used for one website. To use GTM, you need a Gmail Account or Google Workspace. GTM Standard Account is free with limited access.
Google Search Console helps with Website Search Performance, Keyword Performance, Page Performance, Internal Ranking Signals, Backlinks, Sitemap Submission, Content Indexing, Non-Indexed Pages, Responsive Issues, Website Risk Notifications, and Copyright Issue Notifications.
A sitemap helps Google understand your website structure. A sitemap contains Website URLs, Categories, Pages, Posts, Tags, Time Stamps, Frequency, and Priority. Submitting the sitemap helps Google index website content.
Before starting GA4, GTM, or GSC, you need a Website and a Gmail Account. Here is the complete installation and workflow process.
GA4 can be installed in three ways. Google Site Kit for basic installation. Code Snippet Plugins for basic installation using plugins. Google Tag Manager for industry-standard installation method.
For small website projects, Google Site Kit or plugin installation can be used. For complete Digital Marketing projects involving Website, SEO, Ads, Affiliate Marketing, and Email Marketing, the recommended method is Google Tag Manager.
Websites can be verified using CNAME, HTML Tag, or TXT Record. If GA4 is already integrated using GTM and the same Gmail account is used, the subdomain can be verified automatically. For a different Gmail account, a Google verification code must be added to the website.
